Picture this: You change the babies diaper, feed him, rock him to sleep, then set him in his bed. You wait several minites, check that he is still sleeping, he is. You start the shower, you check he is still sleeping again, he is, so you get in. Just as you lather shampoo in your hair, you hear it. The wail of your baby.
This happens every time I try to take a shower. Most days I just wait for Johnny to get home so I know someone is able to comfort the baby. This leaves me spending the day in my pajamas, only to shower, and return to clean pajamas. Somedays I have to leave my pajamas though, and go out in public, not covered in baby vomit.
Yesterday was one of those days. I went through the routine, hoping this time he would sleep through the shower. He didnt. At that moment, when I heard the wail, I caught myself wishing he was just a little older. Old enough to let me shower and come out fully clean. Old enough that I can have time to shave both legs, not half of one. Old enough that I am not rushed to comfort him, forgotting my conditioner in my hair.
I caught myself thinking that for just a brief moment, but I didn't mean it. I didnt mean it because, after I got out of the shower, and comforted him and rocked him back to sleep, I looked down at my baby boy, and knew that that moment would come to soon. When it does, I'm going to wish he was still interrupting my showers, that he still needed, and wanted me to hold him, to rock him, to comfort him. So I'm going to enjoy it, even if it means once in awhile I have to throw my hair up in a pony tail with conditioner still in it.
