Home Owners

We moved back to Manhattan in January (well Johnny in January and me and the kids in February) and moved in with Johnny's parents. We finished some work on the house we had been living in in Raymore, and listed it for sale in April. To our surprise (especially after a water leak in the basement of the home while we were away) we got an offer in just over 3 weeks.

We then began searching for a home here. We were picky with what we wanted our next house to be. We wanted a big yard, so many sq ft of room, a certain kind of kitchen, etc. We found our perfect house fairly quickly and went so far as to make an offer contingent on our closing of the house back in Raymore. The house was huge, open floor plan, 2 acres of land, and just plain beautiful. The problem was the house was a foreclosure. When it was foreclosed the pipes burst and filled the basement with about 4 feet of water (and I thought our leak of soaked carpet in Raymore was bad!) This was two years ago so by now, the basement had dried, molded and needed fully renovated. We got a quote and made an offer accordingly, unfortunately the bank wouldn't budge and with the needed renovations we couldn't afford to.

We continued our search and looked at I believe a total of 17 houses, and other than the moldy house couldn't find anything we liked. It became a joke that our realtor was going to have to show us 100 houses before we found one. Then one morning I was doing my normal searching and noticed a new house had been listed and the pictures looked perfect. I sent a text to the realtor asking if we could schedule to see it later that night. We got there and the house really was perfect (minus the exterior paint color) so we decided to make an offer. House #18 was the one!

We came to an agreement and began the process of buying. It was long and stressful. The bank was a daily hassle of emails and faxes, the selling agent was unpleasant (to put it kindly), and I didn't think we would ever finish the process of buying. There was a few times we thought about just giving up, and finding something else. Luckily we didn't have to, and yesterday it became official, and we closed the deal.

I want to say thank you to everyone who helped us get here. We wanted to move back to Manhattan so our children could grow up around their cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. We loved Raymore and will always miss it, but the bond our children have developed already with their family makes our move back totally worth it. We couldn't have done it at all if it wasn't for Johnny's parents giving us a place to live while we sold our house and bought another. They were patient with the process and never rushed us to move and I appreciate that immensely because we didn't have to settle on a home. It's hard having someone come and live with you, let alone another family, pets, belongings etc but they handled it well. I want to thank our realtor Scott (our brother in law) for showing us countless houses, dealing with the unpleasant sellers agent, and the bank daily to help us get this done. I want to thank everyone who has helped watch the kids outside of our work schedules so we could look at houses. Mostly though, I want to thank everyone for showing us so much love over the years, that we wanted to come back. A lot of families do not have that.

We are glad to be back and I can't wait to see what the future brings here in Manhattan! We did it!

P.S. I didn't post pics of the interior because its empty and you can't tell what room is what, I'll post those once we move in. Look forward to before and afters of each room and the exterior as well... We have to put our own personal touch into this house, I hope to be here a loooooong time!

Bella Turns 9

I know this is a bit delayed, but the one time I found myself with time to blog this week, I had the wrong camera with me. Anyway, Bella is 9! Where did the time go? It still feels like yesterday that she was this itty bitty bundle of joy. Now she of course is still a bundle of joy, just not so itty bitty. We celebrated her birthday at the lake last weekend and I think she had a great time. Here is some pictures for all those that missed it. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELLA
